The Problem

The Monroe Library is a vital resource for the Loyola University New Orleans community, but it is difficult for Loyola students to see availability of equipment and study rooms without having to go physically to the library, without guarantee that what they seek is available.

The present friction and lack of convenience that students experience frequently to access library resources hinders the students’ experience and trust in it.

What The Users Said

Store Layout

Customers described the store layout is not only crammed but also "disorienting," making them lose awareness of their surroundings.

Overcrowding

Crowding gets excessive, especially during weekends. Packed hallways are difficult to navigate even after finding what you need.

Staff Availability

Employees often switch between tasks due to store's busyness—making it hard to ask for help

Item Availability

Availability of seasonal and limited items is never clear. Popular items vanish with no warning, frustrating loyol customers.

The Opportunity

This presents the opportunity to design a mobile app to centralize all rentable items and study rooms in the library to create a seamless checkout experience for students.

Confusing Store Layout

Customers struggle to find items even in compact stores — especially when products are constantly rearranged.

Unclear Product Availability

No clear visibility into which items are seasonal, limited, popular, or currently out of stock.

Slow Foot Traffic

Aimless wandering compounds congestion. Faster task completion means fewer people blocking aisles.
